What we were asked to do
Skorm’s owner wanted an opponent that is genuinely hard to beat, and then a run of new ways to play. The work came in stages, each as its own contract: AI first, then mobile app work, then new game modes.
What we built
An opponent worth playing against
Two contracts focused on a rule-based AI player for the hex board. Single player now offers easy, medium and hard opponents. Each difficulty is tested separately, because an easy opponent has to lose without looking foolish and a hard one has to actually be hard.
New ways to play
We added a no-rules creative mode, a mode to play yourself online, and 3-player online multiplayer.
One codebase, three platforms
Skorm is built with React Native and Expo, with React Native Web serving the browser version at playskorm.com. A Node.js and Socket.io server handles real-time online play, and Firebase covers analytics, crash reporting and messaging.
Where it stands today
Skorm is live on the App Store, Google Play and the web, and Loki Games also sells it as a physical board game. The digital game is still early in its life and does not yet have enough ratings to report a meaningful score. Development continues.
